ভারতে চলছে ২১ দিনের লকডাউন। কিন্তু মৃত্যু যেমন বাড়ছে তেমনি সিদ্ধান্তের ক্ষেত্রে পর্যাপ্ত প্রস্তুতির অভাব নিয়ে সমালোচনাও বাড়ছে। এ কারণে রোববার প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদি দেশের দরিদ্র মানুষের কাছে ক্ষমা চেয়েছেন।
করোনাভাইরাসের বিস্তার রোধে গত মঙ্গলবার (২৪ মার্চ) তিন সপ্তাহের লকডাউন জারি করে ভারত সরকার। কিন্তু এই সিদ্ধান্তের ফলে ভারতের কয়েক মিলিয়ন দরিদ্র মানুষ চরম বেকায়দায় পড়েছেন। বহু ক্ষুধার্ত এবং বেকার প্রবাসী শ্রমিকদের শহর ছেড়ে পালাতে হচ্ছে এবং গ্রামের পথে শত শত কিলোমিটার পায়ে হেঁটে পাড়ি দিতে হচ্ছে।
মোদি দেশব্যাপী প্রচারিত এক রেডিও বার্তায় বলেন, আমি প্রথমেই আমার দেশের মানুষের কাছে ক্ষমা চেয়ে নিচ্ছি। তিনি মানুষকে বুঝিয়ে বলার চেষ্টা করেন যে তার আর কোনো উপায় ছিল না।
রোববার পর্যন্ত ভারতে করোনাভাইরাসে আক্রান্তের সংখ্যা বেড়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে ৯৭৯ জনে এবং মোট মৃত্যু হয়েছে ২৫ জনের।
মহামারির কারণে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত অর্থনীতিকে পুনরুদ্ধার ও দরিদ্রদের সহায়তা করার জন্য বৃহস্পতিবার (২৬ মার্চ) ২২ দশমিক ৬ বিলিয়ন মার্কিন ডলারের একটি প্যাকেজ ঘোষণা করেছে ভারত সরকার।
